First Grade – Brothers Survive late scare to secure important win

Brothers First Grade made the trip to St Lucia on Saturday with a crucial win in their sights and for most of the afternoon, it looked well in hand. After a tight opening half, two tries to in-form winger Ollie Harvey gave Brothers a 17-12 lead at the break. The momentum swung sharply in the opening minutes of the second half, as Brothers ran in three quick tries in the space of 10 minutes to take control of the match. But the Students weren’t done. A try to Siliva Leofa in the 68th minute sparked a fierce Uni fightback, with two more late tries setting up a tense final few minutes. In the end, Brothers held on to claim a thrilling 41-36 win. The result keeps Brothers in second place on the ladder  two points clear of Easts and two points shy of league leaders Wests with finals just around the corner.

Founders Cup – Premier Women Make History with First-Ever Aiken-Kairl Cup Victory

It was a landmark day for our Premier Women’s squad on Saturday as they took on UQ in the annual Aiken-Kairl Cup clash at St Lucia. First contested in 2021, the trophy had eluded Brothers in every attempt until now. With history on the line, our women arrived ready to rewrite the script. The opening half was a tense, hard-fought battle, with both sides showing their defensive grit. Uni were first to strike, crossing for the opening try, but Brothers hit back swiftly through fullback Laura Bain, levelling the scores and shifting momentum our way. The second half turned into a thrilling arm-wrestle, as both teams traded tries in a high-intensity shootout. Each time one side looked to edge ahead, the other responded, but it was Brothers who found the decisive blow late in the game. Holding their nerve in the final minutes, our squad showed incredible composure to close out a 22-17 victory and claim the Aiken-Kairl Cup for the very first time. A historic win, a gritty performance, and a proud moment for the Blue & White.
