July 26, 2025, Round 16 Easts vs Brothers
First Grade – Brothers Claim Statement Win Over Easts to Lift Welsby Cup
Brothers First Grade have returned to the winner’s circle in emphatic fashion, downing competition leaders Easts Rugby 28-10 in a physical Round 16 clash to claim the prestigious Welsby Cup. The opening 40 minutes were a tight and gritty affair, with both sides locked in an arm wrestle. A penalty try just before halftime was the only difference, giving Brothers a slender lead at the break. But it was in the second half where the Brethren found another gear. Queensland Reds representative Timmy Ryan sparked the momentum shift, crashing over under the posts to extend the lead and break the game open. With momentum on their side, Brothers continued to apply pressure, with Ollie Harvey and Harry Grant both crossing late to seal a vital win and inject life back into their finals push. The 28-10 result not only handed Brothers the Welsby Cup but also served as a strong statement against one of the league’s top sides, proving they’re still a force to be reckoned with as the season heads toward its climax.

Brothers Women Show Promise in High-Scoring Clash Against Easts
The Brothers Women’s squad put in a spirited performance over the weekend, despite falling short in a fast-paced, high-scoring encounter against Easts, 48-26. Easts showcased their attacking firepower throughout the match, but Brothers responded with moments of brilliance of their own, crossing for four tries through four different scorers. The performance highlighted the squad’s depth in attack and ability to challenge the competition’s top sides. While the result didn’t fall in Brothers’ favour, the attacking intent and execution were clear positives to take from the contest, showing that the team is more than capable of matching it with the league’s best when in rhythm. Focus now shifts to this Saturday’s clash against UQ, where the squad will look to build on their strong attacking showing and tighten up defensively heading into the business end of the season.
