Brothers extended their unbeaten run with an entertaining 46-35 victory over Bond University on the Gold Coast, producing some outstanding attacking rugby before holding off a determined late fightback from the home side.
Brothers wasted little time asserting themselves, with the forward pack laying the perfect platform. A powerful rolling maul marched its way to the line before Fraser crashed over for the opening try.
Brothers' second was built on vision and execution. Spotting space in behind the Bond defence, Prass delicately chipped ahead for Grafton, who gathered cleanly to finish brilliantly in the corner.
The attacking flair continued moments later when Latu sliced through the defensive line before producing a perfectly timed offload to Dalle Cort. The fullback sold a classy dummy before accelerating clear to score untouched.
Bond managed to claw back a try before the break, but Brothers refused to let the momentum shift. Applying relentless pressure deep inside Bond territory, the brethren were rewarded with a penalty try on the stroke of half-time to take a commanding 22-7 advantage into the sheds.
If the opening forty minutes belonged to Brothers, the opening minutes of the second half produced the try of the afternoon.
Dalle Cort ignited the attack with another line break before linking with Urquhart, who found Ryan in support. Ryan lifted a clever ball over the top to Latu, who immediately returned the favour with another perfectly weighted pass to Grafton, allowing the winger to dive over in the corner to complete a breathtaking length-of-the-field team movement.
The Brethren kept their foot firmly on the accelerator. Slick hands through multiple phases created space once again before another pinpoint pass over the top found Grafton in the corner for his third try of the afternoon, completing a memorable hat-trick on the Gold Coast.
Fraser soon added his second of the game, capping another dominant forward effort as Brothers surged to a seemingly unassailable 41-7 lead.
To Bond's credit, the home side never stopped fighting. A flurry of late tries, aided by a Brothers yellow card, saw the hosts close the margin considerably as they found their rhythm with ball in hand.
Brothers answered one of those challenges through a strong individual finish from Dre, ensuring the visitors always maintained breathing room despite Bond's late resurgence.
While the closing stages became a shootout, the damage had already been done. Brothers' clinical first hour, highlighted by powerful forward play and some of the best attacking rugby they've produced this season, proved enough to secure a hard-earned 46-35 victory and preserve their undefeated record.
Colts 1 recorded their first loss of the season in a tough outing that tested their resilience after a strong start to the campaign. After building momentum across the opening rounds with disciplined performances and confident attacking phases, they came up against a well-structured opposition that applied consistent pressure throughout the 80 minutes.
While there were still encouraging moments, particularly through periods of structured defence and glimpses of attacking width, the team struggled to fully convert possession into points in the end.
Despite the disappointment of a close loss 38-42, the performance provides valuable lessons for Colts 1 as they look to regroup, sharpen execution, and respond strongly in the coming rounds to continue building on their season’s foundations.
