Brothers Women’s squad have started their StoreLocal Challenge Cup campaign with a bang, comprehensively beating the Bond University Pirates away this weekend.
With Southeast Queensland once again seeing heavy rainfall, the match was played in slippery conditions on a sodden Gold Coast track, however this didn’t stop Brothers from putting on a try-scoring master class. The girls in Butchers Stripes had new fewer than seven different try-scorers, with an electric Margaret McConnachie and barnstorming Faalaotonga Faalaotonga taking a brace of tries each. This was supplemented by excellent work off the kicking tee from Wynonah Conway and Emma Tanwan.
This result will give Brothers Women massive confidence for the start of their season and see the rejuvenated squad going into their Round 2 match against competition heavyweights, Sunnybank Green on a high. Brothers Women play at 10:50AM on the 5th of April on Jack Ross Oval.
