Brothers Rugby Club delivered a dramatic and hard-fought contest at Crosby Park on Olde Bhoys and Ghirls Day, in a match that had momentum swings, milestone moments, and a gripping finish right to the final whistle.
The Brethren started in perfect fashion, with early pressure building through strong attacking structure. After some slick movement in the backline, Dalle Cort combined nicely with Noah Nielsen, who marked his centurion appearance in style. Nielsen burst through the defensive line and raced away to open the scoring, setting the tone early for Brothers in front of a lively home crowd.
The momentum continued as Brothers shifted the ball wide once again, finding numbers on the edge to cross for a second try. With confidence growing, the forward pack laid the platform through strong carries and direct intent. A well-constructed block play then opened space in the defensive line, allowing Prass to stride through a gap and score, bringing up three tries inside the opening 12 minutes. It was raining blue and white at Crosby Park as Brothers dominated territory and possession.
Brothers continued to apply pressure, adding a fourth first-half try to further extend their control of the match. Although UQ managed to hit back just before the break to get on the scoreboard, Brothers responded well and maintained their composure, heading into halftime firmly in control at 33–5.
The second half, however, told a very different story. UQ came out with intent and lifted their intensity significantly, scoring four consecutive tries to storm back into the contest. The visitors’ momentum saw them claw their way back into the match and eventually take the lead with just eight minutes remaining, stunning the home crowd.
As the game reached its most critical stage, discipline became decisive. A costly penalty against UQ, combined with a yellow card, handed Brothers a lifeline.
With the pressure mounting, the Brethren went to their strength: a dominant rolling maul. The pack drove relentlessly towards the line, refusing to be stopped, before Jack Harley crashed over to level the match in the final moments.
In a pulsating finish, neither side could find the decisive blow, with the contest ending in a hard-fought draw after a rollercoaster battle of momentum, resilience, and heart from both teams.
Brothers Women’s Team showed plenty of grit in a tough contest against UQ, ultimately going down on the scoreboard but continuing to build clear signs of progress in their season.
Despite facing sustained pressure from the opposition, the Brothers side worked hard in both attack and defence, sticking to their systems and competing strongly across the full 80 minutes.
While UQ were able to capitalise on their opportunities and control key moments of the match, Brothers refused to drop their effort levels and continued to fight until the final whistle.
Although the result didn’t go their way, there were still encouraging passages of play and growing combinations across the park.
The group remains focused on building week to week, with strong positivity around their development, cohesion, and commitment to improving as a unit as the season continues
