June 14, 2025, Round 11 Brothers vs Sunnybank
First Grade
A try-fest for the ages, Brothers First Grade powered past a spirited Sunnybank outfit on Saturday, notching up a remarkable 68–38 victory in front of an electric home crowd. With a staggering 106 points scored between both sides, it was attacking rugby at its entertaining best. The Brethren wasted no time stamping their authority on the match, crossing for two early tries and setting a blistering tempo. But the momentum swung midway through the first half after a yellow card to forward George Tuineau gave Sunnybank the opening they needed. The visitors capitalized, running in three quick tries after the break to momentarily close the gap and ignite the contest. Refusing to let the game slip, Brothers responded in style regaining control and asserting dominance in the red zone with clinical execution and relentless pace. The highlight of the day belonged to returning Reds young gun Dre Pakeho, who announced his 2025 arrival with a sensational hat-trick in his first appearance of the season. A dynamic and explosive addition to the side, Pakeho’s return couldn’t have come at a better time as Brothers eye another strong run into finals footy.
Founders Cup
Our 1st Grade Women’s team kicked off their Founders Cup campaign over the weekend, taking on a formidable Sunnybank Green side in what was always going to be a tough first assignment. Despite the challenge, our girls showed incredible fight and character, going into the halftime break trailing by just one converted try. In a game that tested our defensive steel from start to finish, the team stood tall under immense pressure against a clinical and well-drilled Sunnybank outfit. The moment of the match came when Vineta Teutau crossed the line with a brilliant try, levelling the scores at 12–12 and sending a surge of belief through the squad. But as the clock ticked down, Sunnybank found another gear, managing to break through our resolve with a flurry of late tries that saw the final scoreline stretch to 34–12. While the result didn’t go our way, the performance was packed with positives and laid a strong foundation for the matches ahead. The girls now head into a well-earned bye this weekend before gearing up for a blockbuster clash against local rivals Norths on Ladies Day. One you won’t want to miss
