Brothers Rugby Club showed its support of regional rugby by featuring heavily in last weekend’s Rumble in the Region event held at Clive Berghoffer Stadium in Toowoomba.

The event saw Brothers teams featuring heavily, and was the club was a key feature of the event in what is one of Australia’s most rugby mad regions. The Classic Wallabies headlined the day, hosting kids clinics for the Downs’ youngest rugby products before both Classic Wallaroos and Classic Wallabies players from across the eras strapped on the boots to take on the Darling Downs Team of the Decade.

Brothers Colts took on a fired up Goondiwindi Emus in the first match, with the locals keeping with the young Brethren before eventually being overturned in the second half, the final scoreline being 43-15.

Brothers Women then took on the Darling Downs representative team with the added excitement of four Classic Wallaroos splitting themselves between both squads. Brothers Women were kept very honest through the contest, and it took 60 minutes for them to assert themselves fully, running out 24-12 winners.

Finally, Brothers took on Wests in a Grand Final rematch, entertaining the Toowoomba crowd with fast paced rugby that went from end to end. In the end the Bulldogs took honours, winning 34-19 in what was a good first hit out for the squad ahead of their Australian Club Championship fixture.

Contracted Reds player, Premiership winner and Toowoomba product Hamish Muller spoke of what the day meant to him.

“Growing up in the area, it was amazing to be able to come home representing my club and play in front of my home town,” he said.
