June 21st, 2025, Round 12 Brothers vs GPS Rugby
First Grade
Brothers Rugby Club delivered a powerful statement in Round 12 of the Hospital Cup, storming to a commanding 71–26 victory over GPS at Yoku Road on Saturday afternoon. In a performance brimming with flair, physicality, and discipline (despite a couple of stumbles), the Brethren crossed the white line 11 times in a dominant showing that reaffirmed their premiership credentials. Three Brothers players helped themselves to doubles, as the home side tore through the Gallopers’ defence with sharp execution and relentless tempo. The first half was a high-scoring, back-and-forth contest, with both sides trading blows in an open and entertaining start. However, the tone shifted dramatically in the second stanza. Brothers returned from the break with renewed focus, tightening up their defence and slamming the door shut on any hope of a GPS comeback. The Gallopers were held scoreless in the second half, unable to match the intensity and physical dominance of the home side. While Brothers did see two players sent to the sin bin during the match, their structure and cohesion held firm. Even when down to 14 men, the team maintained control, showing impressive discipline and resilience under pressure. From set piece dominance to slick backline movements, it was a complete team performance. The forward pack laid a strong platform, while the backs capitalized on every opportunity, slicing through the Gallopers’ defence with pace and precision. The bonus-point win keeps Brothers firmly entrenched near the top of the ladder as they approach the business end of the season. With form like this, the Brethren look every bit a team on a mission in 2025.
SEQ Womens Cup – Historic First Win for Brothers Women’s 2nd Grade Side
A milestone moment was etched into the club’s history on the weekend as Brothers Rugby Club’s 2nd Grade Women recorded their first-ever victory, securing a well-earned 19–0 triumph over Wests Gold. In just their third outing since forming, the side showed determination, grit, and growing cohesion as they ran in three tries and held their opponents scoreless in a dominant defensive display. Tries to Maggie McConnachie, Eleanor Vitaliano, and Tahlia Lewis sealed the result, with Brothers controlling possession and territory for much of the match. Each scorer showcased individual brilliance while building on the team’s growing confidence and structure. The win is a major step forward for the developing squad and a testament to the hard work of the playing group and coaching staff over the past few months. With the victory, Brothers move up to sixth on the ladder with 4 points from their opening three matches, a promising position as the team continues to build momentum and forge its identity in the competition. This historic result marks not only a win on the scoreboard, but a proud moment for the club and a sign of exciting things to come in the women’s program.
