Brothers Rugby Club is pleased to announce a structural change in the Rugby Department with appointment of Anthony Mathison as Premier Grade Head Coach. Anthony joins the club after spending time with GPS and more recently University. The former Reds player plans to turn the regular finals appearances into Premier Grade Premierships. Former Brothers Attack Coach Carl Marshall returns as Mathison’s assistant coach after having a year away from club rugby.
Former Premier Grade Coach Matt Kaye, who combined the responsibilities of Head Coach and Club Management, moves into a Director of Rugby/General Manager role and will oversee the clubs operations both on and off the field.
Brothers President Jim Frayne indicated the structural change was necessary for the club to continue to develop particularly at Colts and grades level given the constraints of limited revenues..
“The club must adapt to the current demands of the sport. The management of the club is an enormous task and this change will allow the both Matt & Anthony to focus on specific roles.”
Frayne also said “after an extensive interview process we have found the right coach to take the Premier Grade side to another level”
Mathison who takes on a Head Coach role for the first time said “I’m really looking forward to working with the club and the players. They have been a great side for a number of years, with a talented Colts group graduating I think great success is just around the corner’
In other appointments, Ben McCormack and Ant Sauer have been reappointed as Premier Colts Coaches while Des Kissane, Brendan Gabbett and Simon Price will look after 1st Grade.
