Easts spoil Brothers' Old Boys Day celebrations

Easts secured a 26-22 win over Brothers at Crosby Park on Saturday.

The Tigers were trailing late in the match before a David Yabsley try in the 75fth minute saw them snatch back the lead to spoil Brothers’ Old Boys Day celebrations.

Brothers opened up the scoring two minutes into the match when Mitch Felsman swooped on a loose ball and raced away for a try.

Criff Tupou took a quick tap five metres out from the line and barged his way over to extend Brothers lead to 12-0.

A sneaky no-look flick pass by Alfonso Horomia put David Yabsley in a half hole before the inside centre received the ball back to dot down for the Tigers’ first.

Easts levelled the scores when Jack Frampton sliced through Brothers’ defence and then held the ball up to put Izack Rodda over.

With half time approaching, Brothers backline put the ball through the hands to open up the space for Felsman’s second try.

After the break, Tiko Navaitalai re-levelled the scores with a powerful run from close range to open the scoring

With the scores locked up at 19-all both sides had opportunities to break the game open but it took a Lawson Creighton 70th minute penalty goal.

The Tigers turned down a shot at goal and went searching for the win by kicking the ball deep into touch.

After a rolling maul and a number of tight phases, the Tigers swung the ball wide where Brothers defence were caught napping for Yabsley's try.

Brothers had one final crack after the siren and looked threatening but a knock on handed the Tigers the win.

In Round 14 Brothers will welcome Bond University to Crosby Park and Easts will host Norths at David Wilson Field.
