Brothers record back-to-back victories

Brothers secured a 35-24 victory over Souths in Round 8 of Queensland Premier Rugby at Chipsy Wood oval.

Scrumhalf Reuben Wall crossed for a double as the Brethren outscored the home side five tries to four.

Souths were first to score when flyhalf Paul Brown delivered a looping cut-out pass to Emori Waqavulagi to score.

The Brethren looked threatening throughout the opening quarter but Souths defence stopped a number of attacking raids before Criff Tupou finally went over out wide.

With half time looming, Brothers flyhalf Patrick James accelerated through the defensive line and put Mitch Felsman away for the Brethren’s second try.

Souths centre Levi Aumua hit a strong switch line, busting his way through Brothers defence before offloading to Simana Halaifonua who scored on the stroke of half time, 14-10 to Brothers.

After the break, Brothers lock David Corbenici crashed over from close range to extend the Brethren’s lead to 11 points after Mitch Felsman nailed the conversion.

Brothers prop Garrath Ryan was sent to the sin bin and Souths capitalised applying pressure at scrum time to be awarded a penalty try five out from the Brethren’s line.

With less than 10 minutes remaining Brothers forward pack got their revenge, executing an effective rolling maul that created the hole for Wall’s first try.

Off the following restart, Brothers swung the ball wide and set off down the left-hand touch line as Wall finished off the movement to put the nail in Souths’ coffin.

The Brethren head to Oldmac Oval this weekend to play Sunnybank while Souths will have the bye.
