Revenge for the Red Heavies against the Brethren

University of Queensland have exacted their revenge against Brothers following their 2016 grand final loss, securing a 57-24 win over the Brethren at Crosby Park in Round 6 of Queensland Premier Rugby. 

The students outscored Brothers nine tries to four, and won the line-out and scrum battle to control posession throughout the match.  

It was through UQ’s well-executed set piece that lock Patrick Morrey was first to put points on the board, giving them the lead early. 

UQ kept the pressure on, seeing flanker Adam Korczyk and outside centre Josh Birch cross the line. 

It wasn’t until the closing minutes of the first half that Brothers answered back through the efforts of winger Will Shipperley and prop Garrath Ryan.

Just before half time, Phil Potgieter crossed the line to give the Red Heavies a 24-17 lead. 

The secondhalf saw UQ bring an onslaught of attack with Alex Horan playing a key role. 

The students continued to extend their lead to 50-12, scoring consecutive tries through the Jack Cornelson, Nathan Russell, Campbell Wakely, Gareth Kalell, and Harry Parker. 

Brothers were kept in the game with efforts from Ryan, claiming a second for the game, and fullback Mitch Felsman, who claiming the last try of the match. 

Round 7 will see UQ back on home turf at St.Lucia hosting Sunnybank, whilst Brothers will take on second place GPS back at Jack Ross oval.
