Easts v Brothers
Brothers fought out a gruelling 17-15 victory over Easts at David Wilson Field in Round 18 of the BLK Queensland Premier Rugby.
After a tough opening 15 minutes the deadlock was finally broken when a clearance kick was charged down by Mitch Felsman.
The winger was tackled without the ball, preventing a possible try and Brothers were awarded a penalty try while Easts’ Matt Brandon was sent to the sin bin.
Down a member of their backline, Easts couldn’t withstand Brothers’ attacking waves and George Partridge crossed in the corner to extend the Brethren’s lead.
St. George Queensland Reds prop Pettowa Paraka crossed for the Tigers’ first try with a powerful pick and drive run.
Right on the cusp of half-time, Easts stalwart Toby White levelled the scores with a damaging run from outside centre.
In the second-half, the match tightened up as both teams battled it out in the slippery conditions.
Easts had Brothers under immense pressure but couldn’t crack the Brethren’s defence. The Tigers eventually opted for a long-range penalty goal which Matt Brandon slotted to put Easts ahead by three.
With 10 minutes remaining in the match, a five-metre scrum to Brothers, provided the visitors with a chance to hit the front and Luke Beauchamp took the opportunity with both hands, diving on the ball over the try-line.
The Brethren held on to the two-point lead booking their place in the Major Semi-Final.
