Brothers upset Magpies at Chipsy Wood
A dominant first-half saw Brothers secure a 34-27 victory over Souths at Chipsy Wood.
The Brethren got off to a great start, utilising their rolling maul to great effect as captain Luke Beauchamp scored.
The visitors continued to apply pressure, and caught Souths defence napping out wide when leading Premier Rugby point-scorer Mitch Felsman crossed for his first try of the afternoon.
A further two tries to George Partridge and Taniela Tupou saw the Brethren secure a bonus-point before the half-time break.
With Brothers leading 22-0, Souths were desperate in the early stages of the second stanza and crossed for two tries in the opening 10 minutes through Mika Tela and replacement Simana Halaifonua.
The home side were five points behind and a comeback was on the cards when Anton Minenko finished off some stunning work from the back line with 20 minutes remaining.
A long-range penalty goal reduced Brother’s lead to just 2 points before Mitch Felsman crossed for his second try of the afternoon to the extend visitors lead.
A try a piece in the final 10 minutes saw Brothers hold on to 34-27 victory.
